The dramatic success of the Russian Junior team at the Minigolf Youth World Championships. For the first time in history of the Russian National Team participation in the International Minigolf Tournaments, the female junior team won the third place at the Minigolf Youth World Championships in Sochi. The first place among the females went to the German Junior National Team; the second place went to the one of the strongest teams in the world – the Austrian Junior National Team. The male teams confirmed all the minigolf world experts’ predictions and they took the prize-winning places in the following way: The third place went to Sweden; the second one went to Italy and, traditionally, all the gold medals will be presented to the German National Team. The Russian Male Junior Team also made a bid progress. Earlier, at the World Championships, they have never taken places higher than the 10th. But today the Russian guys in the stubborn resistance with the Finnish and Switzerland Teams could take the 5th place leaving behind the Czech Republic Team and the Slovak team. The final competitions in the individual event will be held tomorrow. Russia will be presented by three male and three female sportsmen. This fact is also a dramatic success for Russia. No Russian minigolf player has ever reached the final of the International Tournament before. Germany kept their double gold positions from yesterday when the Team competition ended in the YWC in Sochi today (12 Aug 2010). In the girls competition the German girls just continued their winning game by scoring a70 on eternit and took another 3 strokes on Austria. Even if the last Beton round wasn’t the best by the German girls the gold was never in any danger and finally the margin to Austria was 11 strokes. Best in the German Team today was substitute Vanessa Peuker50 strokes. Anna Bollrich made a 52 today and will be entering the KO-mode as top ranked after the qualification rounds. |
Austria secured the silver by a margin of 45 strokes and Jacqueline Helm was the best girl's player of all today with 49 strokes on the combi round. Helm and her Team mate Lara Jehle is still in second and third place individually. In third place we find the Russian girls and that story we tell in a news item of its own on Minigolfnews. In the men's competition the German boys had the Gold already yesterday in what seemed to be a locked and secured box, leading by 37 strokes. But maybe some nerves can into play since this morning Beton round was quite shaky by the Germans and they actually lost 21 strokes to the Italians. But the last round of eternit the German boys once again showed their consistent game with a safe 137 on the team. The gold was secured with a margin of 18 strokes. But the Germans really won this title on the eternit. There they where 27 strokes better than the Italians, meaning that the Italians was 9 strokes better than the Germans on the Beton. Best today in the German Team was substitute Thomas Sieber on 49 on the combi. In second position we find the Italian boys lead by the Lorenzo Levis and Nicola Bellucci with 48 on today's double round. The 3 Lorenzos are still very much in the top individually and now Lorenzo Levis is in the lead and Ciompi is in second position when the KO starts tomorrow. In third position the Swedish boys could leave their Austrian friends behind and secured the Bronze. Once again the starter Mattias Brännström showed the way by being best of all individually today with 46 on the combi round. Tomorrow starts the KO-mode and it's interesting to notice that we find 3 Russian boys and 3 Russian girls having qualified for these finals. |
